bday party & station #2

Here are some pictures from cousin Katy's (my brother's daughter) birthday party, as well as a few from last week's trip to the Sandy Springs Fire Station.

Kate had an awesome inflatable castle at her party!

And the twins could not get enough of jumping!

Owen planning his escape.

The birthday girl!

And then we visited a fireman friend in Sandy Springs the following week . . .

And Owie got to climb in the truck and drive!

But, El was more interested in petting the "dog" that stood guard outside the station.

eliotism

We were playing "grocery store" tonight, so my mom gave each of the kids a one dollar bill to go "buy" her a box of spaghetti and three apples. They were so excited to actually get REAL money.

Grandma asked, "El, who is on the one dollar bill? Is it George Washington?"

Eliot studied the bill. Then she smiled, and replied enthusiastically, "No! That not George, that the lawn mower man!"

30 weeks!

Woohooo!

I'm 30 weeks pregnant, and still feeling good. Baby boy is already measuring over 4 pounds (the twins were 2.7 and 2.2 lbs. at birth), and is very, very active. I get kicked constantly, and I swear he has a little toe tucked in my right rib. Ouch!

I've really been enjoying the pregnancy, but then, I have a very different perspective than most pregnant women. All I know is that it feels wonderful to still be vertical and not lying down in a hospital bed.

What a blessing. Let's hope this little guy gets many, many more weeks.

grandparents

TWO whole days with the grandparents this week - what kind of trouble did we get in?

El got her sunglasses on, and said "I ready to go!"

First, they helped wash Baba's car.

Water, sponges, bubbles. Could there be a better combination?

Story time with Cece. Easily the best picture ever taken of the two of them. (Thanks Baba!)

Showing off his new goggles!

And boy did he REALLY start swimming this week . . .

Do you believe this kid?

Water gun for El.

Ummmmm. I walked FAR away after taking this picture.

And, of course, slip & slide in the front yard. (Are you kidding me?)

And who do you think showed Owen how to go head first? Baba, of course.

today's the day

I'm 27 weeks pregnant today - the gestational age when the twins were born two and a half years ago.

And it feels so weird. And great. And . . . I'm still pregnant. I have loads of energy; I think my belly looks kinda cute all round and such; I'm having tons of Braxton Hicks contractions, but the doctors ASSURE me that they are "fake" contractions, and they are not doing anything to throw me into preterm labor. (So take THAT, you crappy cervix!).

But, getting to my 27th week in this pregnancy makes me remember how badly I wanted to get to 28 weeks with the twins. I could have gotten another steroid shot to help develop their immature lungs; 28-weekers have a much better survival rate; and every doctor that I ever talked to said 28.

28.

At the very least. 28.

But I didn't make it. 28 weeks would have been Christmas Eve. And I had visions of how I was going to celebrate in the hospital: with a big, fat steroid shot in the butt, that's how. It would have been the best present ever.

But, I didn't make it.

And O & E came into the world three months early. So damn early. How they made it through those very rough first few nights is beyond comprehension. And now - well, the years have been good to us, for sure. They run laps around the kitchen island before dinner; they say things like, "I want to go to the Chattahoochee;" they know the difference between a garbage truck, a cement truck, and a dump truck; and just yesterday they asked me to buy them goggles so that they can see underwater at the pool. Goggles for the love of god. I can't even believe how lucky we are; how amazing they are.

My little spaz-tastic miracles. My 27- weekers who were supposed to make it to 28, but didn't.

Second verse will NOT be the same as the first. I'm still pregnant, and forging ahead to the elusive, yet now seemingly attainable 28 weeks. Go mommy, go. Grow baby, grow.

long time, no blog

It's been forever . . .

The twins ended their Parents' Morning Out program a week before Hilton Head, and then, after our vacation at the beach, we got to spend two weeks just hanging out together. Every day. Five days a week. A pregnant mommy running after two-year old twins. In 90 degree Georgia heat. And it was great, but absolutely exhausting.

They have since started a new camp, and we've all been enjoying our first few weeks of summer. Just look at all of the things we've done:

We went sliding on slides . . .

and perfected head first.

We ran through the sprinkler,

and learned about water guns! (Boy was it fun to shoot daddy when he got home from work.)

We went to a water park for a friend's birthday party,

and came home to our back yard to play in the pool.

BaBa and CeCe took us to the zoo

where we rode the merry-go-round,

the choo-choo,

and a baby giraffe!

We went out to dinner with mom and dad,

and ate snacks at the pool after swim lessons.

We learned all about the ocean at summer camp,

and made all of these cool projects, too!

We sang "Pop! Goes the Owen" in an old coffee machine box,

played in the closet with our cousin, Dylan,

and welcomed our new cousin, Barrett, to the family.

We watched some World Cup soccer,

and then drank our disappointment away . . .

We rode on Paw-Paw's boat . . .

and convinced him to go FAST!

We posed for the camera,

(25 weeks!)

and then popped some serious 'tude (as well as popped some serious belly button, as displayed in previous photo).

And, we learned that it only takes twenty seconds,

to climb into a cup

of chocolate freakin' pudding.

vacation
